Policies and procedures

Under the Governance and Management Framework Policy, policies and procedures are documented controls containing mandatory requirements to enable effective and efficient governance and management across UQ.

A small number of Senate Rules are in place; these have equivalent status to policies. The Senate Rules in force are linked below.

Policy overview

Policies are developed, adopted and managed to realise one or more of the following:

support the achievement of UQ’s objectives and strategic priorities;
give effect to directions or advice from Senate, the Vice-Chancellor or the Academic Board (subject to approval from the Vice-Chancellor);
manage significant strategic or financial risks; or
demonstrate compliance with applicable laws, regulations, mandatory government policies/standards, legal obligations and mandatory professional standards.

Policies are developed collaboratively to reflect the diversity of the UQ community, including people belonging to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, LGBTQIA+ communities, cultural and linguistically diverse communities, disability communities and other diverse communities. As such, UQ policies use language which is inclusive of people from these communities.

Policies are categorised as Governance, Academic and Operational and have UQ-wide application. The details of the categories are in the Governance and Management Framework Policy.

Senate rules have an equivalent status to UQ Policies. The University is in the process of transitioning all Senate rules into the Policy and Procedure Library.
