Election Outcome
In accordance with clause 60 of the Senate and Academic Board Elections Policy, the Returning Officer is please to announce that the following people have been elected to the Academic Board.

Academic staff employed at Level D or E (Professorial members) (for a 3-year term beginning 1 January 2027):

  1. Professor Andrew Bonnell
  2. Professor David Ascher
  3. Associate Professor Annie Pohlman
  4. Associate Professor Nasim Amiralian
  5. Associate Professor Steven Salisbury
  6. Associate Professor Marcus Gallagher

Academic staff employed under a contract with a term of employment of 12 months or more requiring at least 18 hours of work each week at Level A to C (Non-professorial members) (for a 3-year term beginning 1 January 2027):

Academic Board elections are an important opportunity to have your say in who contributes to academic governance at UQ. Eligible members of the UQ community are encouraged to participate.

The election will be conducted in accordance with:

The election process, including nominations and voting, will be managed through BigPulse, an online election system.

The Academic Board Policy outlines the Board's composition, and includes the following elected members:

  • 20 academic staff (employed by the University at Level D or E) 
  • 20 academic staff (employed under a contract of employment with a term of 12 months or more requiring at least 18 hours of work each week at Levels A to C) 
  • 3 undergraduate students 
  • 1 postgraduate coursework student 
  • 1 postgraduate research student 

Staff members are appointed for 3 years, while student members are appointed for one year. Elected members can serve a maximum of 2 consecutive terms.

Elections are conducted each year.

The Academic Board is the University’s senior academic advisory body and is established under the University of Queensland Act 1998. 

The Board advises Senate and the Vice-Chancellor on all matters relating to, and affecting, the University’s teaching, research and educational programs.

Clause 10 of the Academic Board Policy states who is eligible to nominate and vote in the election.

All undergraduate students of the University

  • You can only nominate for election in one membership class, even if you are eligible to nominate in more than one
  • You can vote in all the membership classes you are eligible for.
