Academic Board elections are an important opportunity to contribute to UQ. Eligible members of the UQ community are encouraged to participate in this process.
The election will run in accordance with the Senate and Academic Board Elections Policy and the the Academic Board Policy, with the election process managed through UQ’s election software.
The Academic Board Policy outlines the Board's composition, and includes the following elected members:
- 20 academic staff (employed by the University at Level D or E)
- 20 academic staff (employed under a contract of employment with a term of 12 months or more requiring at least 18 hours of work each week at Levels A to C)
- 3 undergraduate students
- 1 postgraduate coursework student
- 1 postgraduate research student
Staff members are appointed for 3 years, while student members are appointed for 1 year. Elected members can serve a maximum of 2 years.
Elections are conducted each year.
The Academic Board is the University’s senior academic advisory body and is established under the University of Queensland Act 1998.
The Board advises Senate and the Vice-Chancellor on all matters relating to, and affecting, the University’s teaching, research and educational programs.

Clause 10 of the Academic Board Policy determines who is eligible to nominate and vote in the election.
If a person is a member of more than one class, they can only nominate for election in one class, but they can vote in all the classes they belong to.
